and the hippos were boiled in their tanks

themadeshop:

This is the Flow Temple mark I just recently finished making for Burning dan.
No one besides he and I and Teafaerie has seen it yet, and I wanted to post it today in remembrance of him.
Working with Dan was one of the most positive, fun, and rewarding design experiences I’ve ever had. We spent hours discussing the beauty of math and proportions while making this together. I miss him so much, and I was just beginning to know him.
I recently wrote here about my grandfather dying and the beauty of thinking about his life as “complete” instead of simply over.
I don’t know all that this symbol meant to dan personally, but looking at it now I can’t help but see the completeness of the circle and unending fabric of the infinity symbol. It suddenly seems to represent dan to me: somehow complete, and yet somehow unending.
Dan died at such a young age that it seems heartbreaking to think of the word “complete,” and yet it is so clear to me that he lived more fully, experienced more deeply, and burned more brightly than almost anyone I’ve ever had the pleasure to share time with.
